.:[ Explaination to skill build:
1.
Lucent Beam is pretty much a no brainer. Fixed damage, harrasser and mini-stun is needed early game. Also, you need to level this to strengthen your Ultimate.
2.
4 levels of stats are learnt early game. One reason is that Luna's initial damage is very, very low (33 - 39 at level 1) plus that fact that she has very low range (300). If you don’t get a few levels of attribute bonuses, you’ll be in serious trouble in doing last hit creeping. The second reason more important reason is the fact that Luna is a very fragile hero. With only 435 starting hp, you will be a consistant target of nukes and with no escape mech, your a free +100 gold. The last reason is in terms of mana and regen. Luna is one of those hybrid heros, an agility hero that depends on spells. The intelligence from the Attribute Bonuses are much needed to boost mana to spam spells while strength pumps hp.
3.
Lunar blessing is total crap, this can be explained in diaz_leon's Drow Ranger guide:
Trueshot and Blessing are basically the same, with only 1% difference in the damage increase. The reason I do not get it last, is because Lunar Blessing has greater effect on Luna at lvl17 than getting stats bonus.
4.
Moon Glaives is not effective until Luna has some form of high damage item. Since you won't beable to get damage until around mid game, and you need stats early game, Moon Glaives is gotten at lvls 12-15. Once you have Moon Glaives, you will be pushing. Even if you last hit/deny, you'll still be pushing. That is the reason why Moon Glaives is not early game. || C. Item Build
^ heh, no, that is not the item build. Starting items: Circlet of nobility x 2, Slippers of Agility x 2, Tangos, 1. Empty Bottle, complete 3 wraith bands. 2. Observer wards, teleportation scrolls (sentries if invisbles) 3. Boots 4. Blink Dagger 5. Radience 6. Complete Boots of Travel, Planeswalker's cloak (or get this before BoT if needed) 7. Butterfly 8. Aegis Final Items: 1. Boots of Travel 2. Empty Bottle 3. Blink Dagger 4. Radiance 5. Butterfly 6. Aegis
Early Stage: Final Stage: *You can buy a third wraith band if you find it difficult to last hit. .:[ Justification, Explainations, and uses of items Wraith Bands: Luna already has mana / Hp regen with bottle, now she needs mana capacity to pull of combos. Wraith Bands over nulls to help your last hit. All Luna needs is the mana capacity to pull off her combo. OMG NOOB, Wraith bands are for mid game hunters like Anti-mage and Bounty Hunter! Why do you stress so much about last hit damage?! Well, as you know, Luna has one of the lowest intial base damage in the game. With damage like this, it is extremely difficult to last hit and deny, even for me, an expert last hitter. With the current update of denies giving more experience, it is now much more important to beable to deny with no difficulties. Since wraith band costs only 125 gold, it makes most sense to convert slippers and circlets to wraith bands. Empty Bottle: The perfect early game solution to Luna's survivability and mana. This allows you to face chain nukers, and even better, chain nuke as well! The rune catching ability is nothing to ignore, a haste/invis is an easy substitute for blink dagger. This basically adds an effective 600hp and 225 mana. Blink Dagger: Juggernault has Fury to clear creeps, Luna can't really do that with glaives. This is used to give perfect position for your eclipse. I put this item in because it can be used to extend your combos, giving an extra Lucent Beam. In escape terms, this item has huge synergy with Boots of Travel. Since Luna has no escape mechanisms, blink dagger is a solid choice. Radiance and Butterfly: They both work well with Glaives and do not interere. They boost DPS and give pure damage. Once you get Radience, farming Butterfly will be a breeze. The thing about Radience is that it helps with Luna being a low range hero. Remember, Radience is the single best item to have on Luna. Why don't you rush RADIENCE? Luna is no Medusa, especially not a Razor. It will be extremely hard for her to farm 3800 for relic only on last hit. She has no chain lightening or Stormseeker to help her. She has low range, and no defensive skill (Medusa has purge/Mana shield, Razor has RANGE/Unholy aura) and low damage that will barely go over 100 (try farming 3800 with that!). The only thing that she has is a nuke and movespeed. With this build, I bring out Luna's early game potential as a nuker while gradually building up damage (wraiths) until you are able to farm with ease and get that Relic. Observer Wards: Prevention and knowledge are best ways of not getting ganked. Wards GAURANTY early game survival. They can also gauranty a kill if you see a hero running through the river. This is probably better than aiming for Lothar's / Blink dagger early game. For tips for placing / using wards, Click Here or scroll down for a ward mini guide. I STRONGLY recommend you buy wards. There is just a strong synergy with runes and Luna. Planeswalker's Cloak/Aegis/Divine: Yieh, the previous versions of this guide were all anti aegis. The truth is, the 3 charges of reincarnation are just too good. Aegis is cheaper than Heart and the reincarn is much more useful, especially for pushing. All Luna really needs is enough time/hp to cast her combo. Without getting Aegis, you are really limiting Luna's farming potenial to get the most Powerful Divine Rapier. Even though the armor has less affect, the magic resistance is still very good for Luna. Getting Planeswalker's cloak mid game will add some beef to Luna as she will face nukers. .:[ Other considerably good items Black King Bar: All damage dealers must have a form of this one way or another, how would you expect to hop into the middle of a battle and use your Eclipse? This item also synergizes with BoT in escaping. The reason why it is not a main item is because you can eithwe dodge most spells or enter a battle after they are cast with blink dagger. Eclipse can take out most intells pretty quickly too. Get this item if stuns / spells are really severe. .:[ Which items are bad and why: Luna's Moon Glaives are her passive skill, and at full level, it will will give you 230% damage output. HOLD ON! Say that agian? Luna's Moon Glaives are her passive skill, and at full level, it will will give you 230% damage output. Meaning 1 damage will amplify to 2.3 damage in farming or team battles. Realisticly, there will only be about 3 enemy heros, maybe 4 in a team battle, resulting in only 196% damage output for 3 targets. As good as it sounds, there are many items that can disrupt Moon Glaives: Group1 - Monkey King Bar / Buriza / Basher: whenever the % effect is triggered, Moon Glaives will be overridden Group 2 - Desolator / Sange and Yasha (Sange) / Maelstrom: NO ATTACK!!!!!! Group 3 - Manta Style (Diffusal Blade) / Eye of Skadi: No orb effect! Don't beleive me? Check out the out effect time table! From Mid to Late game, you will rely more on Glaives and less on your spells meaning that group1 items are not worth it. 3 targets: 100 + (100 * 0.6) + (100 * 0.6* 0.6) = [color=#8B0000]196% 4 targets: 100 + (100 * 0.6) + (100 * 0.6* 0.6) + (100 * 0.6 * 0.6 * 0.6) = 217.6% All 5 targets: 100 + (100 * 0.6) + (100 * 0.6* 0.6) + (100 * 0.6 * 0.6 * 0.6) + (100 * 0.6 * 0.6 * 0.6 * 0.6) = 230.56% Since the best way of acheiving 5 targets is by farming / pushing, Luna should focus in these areas Diffusal Blade/Manta Style: You simply should not be taking the image route because of the lack of damage that stacking yashas will give you, especially how you will lack the power to farm. The cooldown for Manta is really long and lasts only 30 secs. Going a straight image hero build means you will lack fire power especially agianst one hero. Helm of the Dominator / Satanic: There is simply no synergy between Lifesteal and Luna. She has pretty good DPS agianst multiple targets but low DPS agianst one target, which will lead to low lifesteal. As well, there is no synergy with dominated creeps and Luna has quite high armor already. Battlefury / Linkin's Sphere: Getting Bottle is simply a better choice, since it won't slow you down from relic. Bottle is a simple replacement for preservance, as both the mana and hp regen will become quite useless as the game continues. The bottle allows you to chain nuke, giving you 75 mana in just 3 seconds. RoH is not needed agian nukers because you can also regen 200 hp in 3 sec. All of the needed regen is in one 700 gold item. Besides, there is huge synergy with Luna and runes. Why Caster Luna is bad I'm going to try to summarize this as short as I can. 1. Luna is in need of Escape Mechanism and Positioning for Eclipse. Simply put, I don't see the reason of going aganhims to boost your Eclipse if you can't aim it right. Luna is a fragile hero, she needs a way to escape. 2. Luna is a pusher. Radience has so much synergy with Luna that you should get it as soon as posssible. With glaives, Luna is one of the best pushers. None of the items above will maximize or even have synergy with Glavies. Caster Luna can't push. 3. Caster Luna's are just weak late game and can be countered. BkB and Aegis will make apearances to stop you, and many of the enemies anti-spells. Without, your ultimate, it's gg. Once you cast your Ultimate or Lucent beam, you're pretty much USELESS, until it finishes cooling down. The whole process of pulling out 24 beams takes at least 10 seconds because double-casting doesn't double the speed of beams appearing. And having a skill that deals 7200 damage over 10 seconds may not be effective especially when people can just split and book it. 4. The items you go for are just crap on Luna. Scepter, Guinsoo, and Necromicron are mana overkill. Refresher and Dagon require you to have one of those overkill items. Scepter costs a ton - impossible to farm with pesky low dmg last hit. Lothar's edge: Everyone knows this arguement. So here we go: 1. Since Lothar's doesn't give anything but invis for the recipe, it's ok to compare invis to blink. You want to get Radience as fast as possible, for the synergy Luna has with it. Since Blink dagger is cheaper, therefore it's a better choice. 2. Blink is simply better than invisiblity. That's right. Blink beats Invisibility in all aspects. It can't be counter by wards, it's instant, costs significantly less mana, you move farther than invisibility ms boost, you can't be hit by AoE like in invisibility. Blink beats invis in all aspects - I can't find a negative con about Blink dagger. || D. Skills Analysis
.:[ How do I play Luna? Luna's role in the game All of Luna's skills emphasize the abilities (yes, even Lunar Blessing) to do tons of damage in a short period of time. Her Glaives makes clearing creeps very easy. With Glaives and Eclipse doing the most damage when there are MORE targets, Luna should be played as a super pusher and Damage Dealer in Team Battles. As I said before, the way to MAXIMIZE the effectiency of Glaives is to have the most targets. This will give Luna a full 230% damage output. Late game, the uses of Eclipse change aswell, instead of focusing Eclipse on one or two heros, you will blast it out in team battle to maximize damage. Her main goal is to nuke and survive early, until level 12 at least. Buying wards is the job of Luna, because of her farming ability, unless there is a hero much better suited to the job (silencer). The unique thing about Luna though, is that she is a "hybrid hero". Because of lack of physical damage early game, she plays the role of a nuker and later changes to the Damager role. Her ultimate is one of the most feared. Many teams and strategies revolve around clearing creeps as intiating her fearful combo. Game Role:
Early game Nuker, Ward supplier, Pusher, Crazy AOE Ultimate Dmger, Dmg dealer
When Should you choose Luna?(priority order): 1. If the enemy has Channeling AoE Ultimates (CM + Enigma etc.) 2. Agianst weak enemies 3. If an Earth Shaker / Warlock is on your team 4. If your team has a lack of pushers, AoE ultimate 1. How do I use Lucent Beam? With low damage early game, Lucent Beam is your only weapon. Use it wisely and remember about the 25% magic resistance that apply to heros. a. Early game harrasing. Use it to pump damage to an emeny hero and soften then up for Eclipse. You may not consider using this nuke on heros that have high form of hp regen (Ring of Health) or heros with high Hp (Centaur). If you see low Hp heros, cast Lucent Beam to force them back to the fountain. b. As a finisher. Use Lucent Beam when chasing enemey heros after you've casted Eclipse. c. Mini-stun. Use it to stop channeling spells especially teleporting people. 2. How do I use Moon Glaives? a. Once you get this, it's basically always on. Use it for creeping / pushing with radience and pure damage items. b. Small damage harrasing. This actually increases Luna's range in a sense as the Glaives can bounce. Use it so hero's can't hide from you. 3. Lunar Blessing a. It's a passive aura, not much to be said. 4. Eclipse There are many different uses of Eclipse and uses change and vary depending on the stage of the game. Remember that Eclipse is a non-targeted spell - when you click the icon, it activates. a. 1 v 1 killing. Early game you can basically one-hit-kill every agility and intell hero 1 v 1 as long as you focus your ultimate on them (1200 damage! with level 4 Lucent Beam of course, w00t!). You can try your chances agianst tanks too. The reason why this choice of use is best early game is because Eclipse targets randomly, and if there is only one target, it will only hit that one. Do this by reducing the amount of targets to one (no other enemies around). One way to ensure this is by either sneaking up or using Blink Dagger. b. Killing 2 mid hp heros. This is the next best use for early game Eclipse. With 4 beams, Eclipse will either be split out as 3-1 or 2-2. The chances of all 4 hitting one hero are very low, besides, since they are at low hp, if one dies the beams will continue on the other hero. c. Team battles. This is where your ultimate does the MOST damage. This is the way to maximaze your Eclipse effeciency late game and do 3000 damage. Eclipse can be used to create a period of no channeling spells! An important thing to also note is that Eclipse has a mini-stun too, which will stop channeling spells (perfect for team battles ^^). Eclipse also has a faster casting time than Lucent Beam. When facing Sandking late game, Lucent Beam is not fast enough after he's stunned you, so use Eclipse instead to stop this Epicenter. Futhermore, Eclipse works like this, 0.5 secs for each beam to cast. Which is X number of beams times 0.5 secs. With 12 beams, that will be 6.0 seconds! Wut does this mean? With 12 beams you can stop channeling spells for 6 secs! 4. How do I use Blink dagger? a. Position for Eclipse. Make sure no creeps are around. b. Escape. Blink over cliffs for best escape results. or Blink into the trees and teleport. c. Extending Combos. Blink will grant you an extra chance to add one more Lucent Beam. .:[ How do I use Empty Bottle?
How do I Chain nuke with Bottle?
Bottle allows you to gain early game dominance by chain nuking, this will force your enemy back and they will be scared of you. Notice that Lucent Beam has a 7 second cooldown and Bottle regens for 3 seconds. You can effectively continuously nuke 5-6 times in a row - everyone will be scared of you. Speed Healing? At your base, you can use the bottle to heal FASTER! You may not think that it's not that significant, but oh, it is! The seconds that you save doing this will really add up and count. Do speed healing by just spamming the bottle at your fountain. Healing in the heat of battle? Very possible actually, many times in the replays you can see me doing this: using my bottle to heal in the midst of battle. Not only does this help to give you more "HP", but it can be very helpful for mana for an extra Lucent Beam. To do this correctly, all you have to do is "time" the enemy hits properly. E.g: if the enemy tree is attacking you, press bottle immediately after the rock hits you. This can be used when either chasing or escaping, just time your bottle heals right so you don't get hit. You should always try to use bottle in battle if you think you can safely, especially if no one is attacking you. If you have a regen, this can be used like the bottle in these situations - you just gotta be more careful. Runes? This item allows you to quickly heal yourself agianst chain nukers. It also allows you to chain nuke. The rune-catching ability should not be ignored: Haste / Invisiblity: Use it to position for Eclipse Double Damage / Illusion: Use it for pushing Regeneration: Save it, nuke your enemy with all your mana, then refresh! Fig 02. Using the illusion rune Bottle now gives a full bottle after a rune use! So you can just use the rune immediately just for the 3 charges of heal! You can also save the rune in the bottle for up to 2 minutes! Remember, you can save the rune in case of emergency to escape (using invisibility to escape). Rune-Running? There is a unique strategy that I use with Luna called Rune-Running. This is a powerful technique that uses Bottle, Wards and Runes. 1. Plant out your wards at the two "Rune Spots" 2. Watch for runes and empty your bottle to pick it up (either spam it on your opponents or even kill creeps with beams) 3. With the rune in your bottle, find a target and go for it! Use the rune if you wish to help you kill, or you can use it before and just heal with it. Remember that runes last for 2 minutes in the bottle, so you can just save it. 4. After a gank or encounter, roam the rivers for more runes and heal. 5. You can go almost forever like this without ever going to the base! I don't know if I can clearly explain what I mean by rune-running so it would be a good idea if you could watch a replay! I do it many times in there. 4. How do I use wards? Wards with conjuction with bottle is a mean team. You'll always know where the good runes are and will beable to have them on hand. Futhermore, you'll knew where heros are and prevent ganks. .:[ In times of emergency// how do I use teleportation scrolls? Escaping
Blink / Move into trees. It's a very good idea for your enemy to NOT see you when you do this. Sometimes you can just do this step to escape:D 2. Cast teleport WTF?! TP Scrolls to save towers? Many people still do not know this - TP scrolls give +99999 armor to towers if casted properly: 1. Click on the scroll 2. Click on the tower DIRECTLY. Not on the ground near it, click right ON the tower. This technique is good for an incoming enemies creep wave attacking a vulnerable tower, or for defending a low life tower. (Screens on the way). .:[ What do I do In a team battle? Look at the number of opponents, if there are creeps around, target and clear them, making "space" for your eclipse. Hit as many targets as you can with Moon Glaives. Use Lucent Beams on targets that will be most effective (channeling spells). Once there are few creeps: 1. Blink in, cast Lucent beam, cast Eclipse, nuke with Lucent Beam immediately afterwards (should be 1 sec away from cooldown or so). 2. Continue attacking, nuke as a finisher. If Blink dagger has cooled down, chase with it.
Your main target here those channeling spell heros, they are most dangerous because they affect your whole team. Remember that you can create that 6 secs (or so) period which no channeling spells that can be sucessfully cast. The second priority are those weak heros. Rememer, once you cast Eclipse, click and prepare you Lucent beam to manually disable anyhero if they try to use a channeling spell - Eclipse is not alway garuanteed.
PLAY DEFENSIVELY! I doubt I can stress this more. Luna should be played defensively, don't risk anything. Don't even bother to kill if there is some risk. Run whenever you feel unsafe or if enemies are missing. Teleport time to time to push different places. .:[ Early game: SURVIVE! That's all i'm asking. Do everything to get to lvl 12 safely Pick a non-solo side lane. Expect to be heavily harrased and bombarded with nukes. Do your denying/last hit job and nuke back. Do everything to survive, and don't try to kill unless there is a VERY appropiate opportunity. Level 6 can get you a kill though, especially if you can snab a rune. Try and wait until level 7, since you can level up your lucent beam, which powers your ultimate even more! Play that bait game if you can, your ultimate ends lives quickly. Facing Nukers? Well, at the start, you get 3 circlets for last hit/surivibility and tangos. It's only when you come back to base, you make wraiths and bottle. Luna is not one of those "lane as long as you can heros in the start", so if you are facing nukers, use ur tangos and rush back to base for that bottle (yes, bottle, not the wriath bands). I do not advise gettin a Ring of Regeneration. You ARE range after all, nukes do more that 200 dmg in about a sec so tangos work better than RoR IMO, they heal faster and more in a short period of time). 4 tangos should do. The key agianst nukers here is bottle. You nuke them, they nuke you, you heal with bottle and repeat. I've done this many times and since you can heal yourself and nuke back, it works well. The only problem is the ultimates. Nukes luna can deal with but ultimates are a hassle. That's where wards come in. Ultimate require positioning so luna can just run away until she has blink. Time to Attack? Nuke back! Once you hit level 3, use you Lucent beam once. At level 5, if your opponent doesn't have regeneration or isn't a tank, begin spaming lucent beam 1 or two times. Use your bottle to refill hp and mana, then nuke agian! Use the bottle chain nuke technique. Don't physical attack the enemy as harrasment early game, this will provoke attacks from the enemy creeps. Yes, you are range but, you have quite low range and are very weak - you can't afford attacks from creeps. Just nuke, the only time you should normal attack an enemy is if you're going for a kill. Search for runes! Set up ganks! Ward a bit too. Once you hit level 6/7, you should be search for a kill. Set up ganks with your allies and take down whoever deserves to be killed. Play the bait game if you have too, inorder to get "alone" with an enemy. Try to minimize your time in between lanes - you don't want to let the enemies know your missing! If you find a poor soul wandering alone in the river, give'm a peice of some moon. If you find a rune along the way, that makes your job a whole lot simpler! Haste will allow you position, invis ibility as well! Regen? Pop in into your bottle! You should be constantlychecking for runes at this point in the game. Pop in and out from farming to check the rune spot at your lane. Remember, you can always save runes in that bottle of yours for 2 minutes. Use the wards. If you have wards, begin placing them at the rune spots. With the one left, place it at the opponent's secret shop, but not directly. Place if part way between their shop and the rune spot. The reason for this is because many heros run to buy stuff and they're alone! Sweet! Funny thing is, you may even find a chicken! Now run to your prize and claim it. Always watch your mini-map. This is very important when playing Luna. Spending that extra energy to keep an eye on the mini-map could potentially save your life, and your allies. See a dot running up the river? Flee to safety! Call "missings" in your lane and "ping" (alt and left click) enemies. Also, ping double damage runes and such, as most other allies can use them better than you can. When your confident in your killing abilities, greet an opponent in the river. Goals. -Bottle -Ganks -survive .:[ Mid game: Take your chance to look for easy kills and opportunites for killing. Until you've gotten your Early Stage items (wraith bands/Bottle), farming will still be difficult, so focus on nuking and killing. Roam the rivers and help your teammates. Search for runes that will help you and begin placing wards. In team battles, act like a nuker and play defensive (stay away from the front lines). Once you obtain Radience, start farming your heart out. Communicate with your teammate. Use syngeries with allies skills - AoE strategies work best. This is your time to shine. -Blink Dagger -Wards -Set up ganks .:[ Late Game: With you major damage items completed, you are now a super pusher. You can kill creeps with ease, so push with your teammates or even solo if you have a safe opportunity. Money should now no longer be a problem, so Butterfly will come quickly. Just push at this point, as far but also being safe. If you suspect enemys you can always blink into the trees and teleport to safety. Wards become less effective at this time, so don't waste too much moola on'em. You'll play that AoE dmg ultimate hero role with your other AoE allies. Farm/Push as much as possible at every opportuny! Aegis is the goal here, once you've got aegis with other allies with BoT and Aegis aswell, winning the game comes easy with consecutive repeating pushes. -AoE ultimate -PUSH! -FARM! -Aegis -Repeated Pushing with Aegis/BoT (Keep that pressure)
